Background

What problems does this solve?

Everyone is affected by architecture. There is not one human who can say "I am not involved in architecture" You are. Whether you are aware of it or not. So people have lots of questions and lot of points to be clarified. Architects Land is a map driven social network that allows such questions to be asked and points to be clarified.

Who can use this?

Short answer: Everyone

Detailed answer: Architects, developers and other professionals from the AEC industry can be placed into a special category. Such people can place the projects they designed/developed. And everyone (including the aforesaid professionals, of course) can put up points, ask questions and provide comments

Signup-Signin

How do I sign-up?

Signing up here is free. It just takes a few minutes to get an account here. There are two ways to get yourself an account:

The easiest is by using the Limen Leap Labs Simple Sign-in utility. But if you don't want to use that, you can send an SMS (Explained later)

This utility can be easily downloaded into your computer (Links can be seen in the sign-in page) The utility is available for both Windows and Mac. The zip file is quite tiny. In fact, it is smaller than many website pages. Unzip the file and run the utility inside it. Enter the code you see at the sign-in page, into the utility and you can get an account in a few minutes.

No private information is ever used when you use this method. In fact you can remain totally private and anonymous, and yet authenticated.

Why do I need to download something just to sign-up?

Discussions about Architecture can invoke many passions. Sometimes the passion may get misplaced and lead to errors. Some, for example, may want to make multiple accounts here just to steer the conversation. We want to ensure that the posts and comments that appear here are of high quality.

If we followed a conventional route; such as asking for an email address, etc; there is a chance that someone can create lots of "sock-puppet" accounts and misuse the freedom they get here. After all, it just takes a few minutes to get a free email address.

Our Simple Sign-in Utility gets a unique DeviceID from your computer and sends it to our server. Nothing else is picked up. A "hashed" version of the DeviceID is then used to identify a user and give that person a unique account here. Usually, a person cannot have access to a large number of computers that he/she owns. Therefore we reduce the chance of one person taking many different accounts.

At the same time, you do not have to reveal yourself: We do not know your email address or other contact details when you create an account.

If you do not like downloading anything to your computer, you can always get an account by sending us an SMS from your mobile phone (Explained later)

Will I get a virus from your Simple Sign-in utility?

Of course not. Why would we do all this just to do some mean thing like that?

The working of Simple Sign-in Utility is very easy to understand: It just picks up a unique ID of your computer with the sole purpose of giving you an account. The major advantage for you is that your email address is not needed, you don't need to "confirm" anything -- you get to use the account in just a few minutes.

So, frankly, we are very serious about your privacy -- and we think that NOT collecting anyone's email address is such a convincing point about safeguarding your privacy. We simply do not like sending out "welcome messages" and "message from the CEO" etc. We would love our users to keep using our service here -- but not because we bombarded them with emails!

We have setup a Discord community server to allow everyone to discuss with each other, and for us to communicate with you.

If users are anonymous, how will I get credible information?

Actually, you get credible information BECAUSE the users can be anonymous. Think of this like a democracy: Imagine if the voters at a booth have to announce to the politicians what their names are when they poll!

On similar lines, when people put up posts and/or comments; there is more credibility -- they don't have to get worried about anyone hassling them.

But I do want to be known. What do I do?

We understand that position too. It may be important for professionals in the AEC industry to announce what they have done. So we have given another route to register: From the sign-in page you can send an SMS instead of using the LLL Simple SIgn-in Utility

If you already have an account, you can do this: In the settings, you can provide your contact details accordingly.

If you claim that you are a professional from the industry; please remember that we do background checks about you. It is critical that the professional has a working website given in the settings. You also will need to confirm your mobile phone number, and that phone number must be visible in your website.

We do not want people falsely claiming someone else's identity. We also do not want fake professionals here.

If my email address is not being used, how do I get messages?

That is a good question! We have a great answer for it: ALL our account holders get a free, private, readonly email inbox from us.

You will get an email address of the form <username>@users.architects.land

So you would get emails on that address. Unlike a regular email address, this particular email address is a readonly system. That means you can receive emails but you cannot send any. You have to use our special email inbox which works ONLY in a browser to receive emails. It cannot be integrated with your regular email.

You can use this special email address to register at other websites/apps. That is a great way to de-clutter your regular inbox! All welcome messages, newsletters etc of those registrations would be collected in this special inbox, instead of your regular email -- thus you can read all of them at your own convenience and leisure

This is our small gift to you, for having registered with us..

Usage

How do I place a point on the map?

Just click inside the map, and it will first check if you have signed-in. Else it will ask you to sign-in before placing a point.  If you have already signed in, it will ask if you want to place a point at the clicked location. If you say yes, you would be presented a form to create a point.

IMPORTANT: Make sure you are quite precise about placing a point. If you have zoomed far out to see the entire world, for example; then the point may not get placed at the location you thought it would go into! As a precaution, the map will NOT allow you to place a point if you have zoomed too far out.

Once that form is submitted, it can receive comments from other community members.

I cannot see any comments! How come?

Comments are visible only when you have sign-in. If you do not have an account, and you are merely browsing around; you can only read some parts of the points that have been placed here.

In short: Sign-up! All sign-ups (registration) are free and you get to place one point on the map free of cost too.

How do I comment on a point?

You can hover on top of the points in the map, and it will reveal a bit of the main post of the point. You can use the link there to expand that point to reveal all its contents. The commenting system can be seen at the bottom.

NOTE: You need to sign-in if you want to read comments and also post comments!

I don't want to place a point. I want to comment only. Possible?

Yes. Many people are not directly involved with the creation of the built-environment. But they still may have questions regarding some property. So once you sign-in, you do have the rights to comment on some points you are interested in. So sign-up, sign-in and go head. Commenting is free.

Can I privately DM anyone here?

Currently, no. But it is on our roadmap.

Can I make a private comment?

Generally, we encourage public comments. But private questions are coming soon. That can be useful if someone is seeking a specific advice on some issue in the built-environment. For example; criticizing a potential apartment before it is purchased.

Anyone who wants to ask such a private question would need to set a "bounty" for its answer. We will choose a few professionals who could provide the answer, and most of the bounty would go to the one who provides the best answer.

A floating panel of experts is being formed to select the answer. We'll keep you posted here and on our Discord community.

Can I delete a comment on my post?

Moderators can delete comments. We have a panel of moderators who is helping us clean up the comments. We are hoping to collect genuine comments regarding the built-environment and hence we cannot allow everyone to delete unfavorable comments.

If you feel very offended by some comment, please email us at admin@limenleap.com and our moderators will look into it.

Can I follow people placing points here?

Yes. Just expand the point from the map, and you will see a follow button. Such following does not mean that you would get notified about their activities. But if you go to your own settings page; you would find all the people you are following and you can then filter the points on the map as per the person you have selected in that follow list.

Can I block people from commenting on my point?

Yes. The people you have blocked would be available in your settings page. You can unblock them later if you so wish. If the same person gets blocked by multiple people, our algorithm may even decide to ban that person. Hence it is important that everyone write sensible comments. Please do not do typing practice in the commenting section.

How do I get notifications when points are placed?

You can order a notification criteria, by selecting the tags of the points you are interested in. There is a nominal charge that is deducted from your account, for each such notification. Make sure that your account is topped up with sufficient balance Koyns.

*Koyns are our "internal currency" that is used in all our solutions. Not just here at architects.land  You can buy any number of Koyns from our payment gateway and credit them into your account here.

Registration is free!

Everyone from any country can register at our system. Once registered, can change your settings. For example; you can mention developer/architect/other professional from the AEC (Architecture/Engineering/Construction) sector. Please note that we reserve the right to verify your claim to be a professional.

Are points placed on map, charged?

The first point that anyone places on the map is not charged. Subsequently, all the rest of the points that you place are charged a nominal amount for each point you place. See our pricing page for details. We do have promotional offers every now and then.

Are there other charges?

We do have some other charges for some special use cases. These are described below:

  • If you are an architect and you want to embed this map on your own website; we will ask for a one time charge.

  • If you want to be notified about some tags that people attach to their points, there is a nominal charge for such a service; for each notification.

  • If you want to get qualified advise on some point you have placed; you can offer some monetary incentive. We will then open up that point to some qualified professional who can respond and give you advice. We share the revenue thus obtained by the professional you would select.

Will I get a refund?

We use our internal currency called "Koyn" You top-up your account, by buying such Koyns and adding the Koyn credit into your account.

If you have Koyns balance in your account, we unfortunately cannot refund it back to you. But you can always re-use the same Koyns in other solutions that we provide. Yes, these Koyns are the same for ALL our solutions.

How can I be seen as an architect/developer/professional from the AEC industry?

If you claim to be a qualified architect/professional, we reserve the right to verify the claim.  We do spot checks and if we find that you cannot support your claim then we may change your category to "General" If you want your name to be acknowledged for a project you placed as a point on the map, it is important that you are indeed qualified as a professional.

For example; if you claim you are an architect from India, you would need to supply your name as seen in the COA (Council of Architects) register. Those who are not registered with the COA in India cannot claim to be an architect.

We have to do such a check to ensure that this service gives as accurate information as possible.

Someone else placed a point on my project. What do I do?

Any project can get multiple points placed on them. For example; a housing project can get lots of points from those who stay there as wll as those who want to buy that property. So that kind of usage is allowed.

What is NOT allowed :
False claim of having developed or designed or given professional service on a property; is obviously not allowed.

If we receive a complaint (Email us at admin@limenleap.com), we will mark that as a conflicted point.

We have an ombudsman (kind of a referee) who would communicate with all the affected parties regarding the conflict. The ombudsman's decision would be final.
